Write a childhood memory journal entry about an incident related to your weight or your body shape.
Growing up in my family meant three meals a day, and an evening snack. Breakfast could range from a poptart to french toast with bacon. Lunch was frequently the school lunch, and dinner was a meat, starch, veggie, and bread with butter!
The snack though is where things were really interesting. Some nights we might have those little pizza bits. Other nights might mean chips and dip. The snacks. However, the place were I can really see where some of my portion control stemming from was ice cream night. When my dad had moved out our snacks became simpler and frequently we had ice cream. This was not your typical small bowl of ice cream though. Because we kids were in charge of doing dishes, and having to wash 4 extra bowls was not appealing, we'd each grab a spoon and eat right out of the container.
Looking back on it though it was a lot of fun. We'd laugh, talk about our day, try to fight with our spoons over an especially appealing bite. In a way it promoted our family togetherness, but it certainly didn't help my waistline!
Now, my husband and I have gotton on a kick where we have some sort of dessert every night. It might be cookies made with ready made dough, or ice cream. The ice cream may be higher in quality and calories but at least I limit myself to a small bowl. For an extra treat I do what my mom used to do occasionally and warm up some peanut butter to drizzle over the ice cream-and don't forget the Hershey's syrup! No wonder I'm not losing any weight.
